Es gibt wohl kaum eine musikalische Strömung, die im Rahmen elektronischer Musik so oft und so gerne zitiert wird wie Dub. Ist ja auch immer ganz charmant, seinen Tracks mittels Vollauslastung des Echodelays etwas mehr Tiefe zu verleihen. Doch wo andere bestenfalls an der Oberfläche des Sounds kratzen, steigen Doc.Nic, Mr. Rod und 'J' alias Phonosynthese voll ein in die Sprache des Dub und frönen dennoch nie klischeehaften Audio-Eskapismen in die Karibik. Zwei Jahre nach dem gefeierten Einstand mit 'Lebensstrom' (ebenfalls auf Elektrolux) macht das wenige Kilometer nördlich von Frankfurt am Rand des Taunus beheimatete Trio dem Projektnamen alle Ehre mit einer gleichsam naturalistischen und dennoch urbanen Ausdeutung der Tiefe des Klangs. Lassen Sie sich von den vordergründig humoristischen Tracktiteln nicht in die Irre leiten, im 'Waldall' wird durchaus ernste Musik gemacht. Da trifft dann im 'Februar Dub' tatsächlich eine jamaikanische Klangkulisse auf die schockgefrostete Winterlandschaft umnebelter Bergeshöhen, wird dem 'Traumzauberbaum' mit schleppenden Handclaps und melancholischem Piano gehuldigt, eine 'Glitzerblume' von Jazzfunk-Orgel samt Mitnicker-Beat entblättert, und mit 'Nebelhorn' oder 'Fruchttrigger' erlebt sogar der melancholische Ambienttrancedub der Frühneunziger ein begeisterndes Revival. Mit Sicherheit eines der intensivsten und vielschichtigsten Chillout-Alben für den Winter 2004/2005. Die drei Produzenten aus dem Vortaunus betreiben seit ca. 15 Jahren ein gemeinsames Studio, in dem neben zahlreichen analogen Synthesizern auch klassische akustische Instrumente wie Schlagzeug, Bass und Klavier einen naturnahen Lebensraum gefunden haben. Seit Mitte der Neunziger mit einigen Techno-Maxis auf Liquid Rec. (unter dem Projektnamen Smokey Sessions) und Crystal Records (als Lysix) aktiv, erwuchs bei den drei Mittdreißigern mehr und mehr das Interesse an experimenteller Elektronika. Eine erste 'Soundernte' hatten Doc.Nic, Mr. Rod und 'J' 2002 mit ihrem Phonosynthese-Albumdebüt 'Lebensstrom' (ebenfalls auf Elektrolux) eingefahren. |

About six months after the Elektrolux debut album 'After The Rain', the ambient jazz producer team Simon Cooper and Phil Webb aka Groovecatcher and the Belgian singer Manuela Van Geenhoven are releasing their next masterpiece by the digital Mini-LP 'Further From Home'. The six tracks can exclusively be downloaded as an online-pre-release via iTunes and thus represent an entirely new Elektrolux product platform. On 'Further From Home', Cooper and Webb celebrate an intensive mix of organic ambient pop, jazzy lounge sounds between Balearic Beats and mellow Drum'n'Bass with a pinch of Easy Listening - a soundscape just as on 'After The Rain'. After the maritime intro of the title track, especially 'Dial M for Martini' bewitches by its narrative playfulness of creating a romantic homage of floating lounge sounds and sixties-related cocktail bar jazz. However, the musical roots of these sounds are definitely present-time ones. In 'Run Silent', the synthesis of trumpet sounds and the soprano voice of Van Geenhoven delights the audience in a wonderfully smooth melting way. By the massively rolling percussions of 'In The Game' and the smooth 'Soilsound' remix of 'The Electronic Kick' (already known from the 10th anniversary compilation), the album which is outstanding in every way is finally completed. |

Es mag vielleicht ein bisschen verblüffen, wenn gerade aus einem Land wie der Schweiz einer der bislang internationalsten Ansätze für Chill Out und Loungemusik das Licht der Elektrolux-Welt erblickt. Andererseits hat das auch wieder eine gewisse logische Konsequenz, denn welcher europäische Staat kann sich schließlich schon gleich vier offizieller Landessprachen rühmen. Den beiden in Zürich beheimateten Musikern und langjährigen Freunden Flavio Maspoli und André Baumgartner, aka Espresso Del Lago, geht es jedenfalls mit ihrem Debüt-Album 'Yeki' genau darum, über beengende Grenzen hinauszuschauen, Einflüsse aus allen denkbaren musikkulturellen Ebenen aufzusaugen und zu etwas Neuem und Eigenständigem umzuformulieren. Dieser Ansatz wäre nicht komplett ohne den besonderen Zauber und den Soul der menschlichen Stimme. Schon der Albumopener 'Sa Trincha' mit den spanischen Vocals von Monica bezieht zwar seine ursprüngliche Ästhetik aus der Idee des mediterranen Chill Outs im Stile der Cafe del Mar-Reihe, entwickelt daraus aber eine definitiv eigenständige Formensprache. Das gilt aber genauso für das impressionistische Piano von 'The World Is Yours', die von der Sängerin Sitta eingestreuten persischen Elemente von 'Yeki' und 'Suratat' bzw. die afrikanischen Einflüsse von 'Digital Divide', die der Klangwelt von Espresso Del Lago eine ungemein exotische und sinnliche Komponente verleiht. Schließlich bedeutet der Titel des Albums 'Yeki' auf Persisch nicht anderes als miteinander zu verschmelzen, das magische Einswerden, das nur wahre Liebe zu bewerkstelligen vermag. |
